Musings on Wine and Other Libations

It's out! It's out! My newest book is out!:
M.F.K. Fisher: Musings on Wine and Other Libations
"One of the greatest 20th century food writers, M.F.K. Fisher has graced us with a legendary body of work that contains many references to wine. Her passionate declarations of the pleasures of good food and drink were culture changing, and she elevated the status of wine in the United States. But a collection of Fisher's writings about wine and other libations has never before been published in one place until now.
The pieces and excerpts in this engaging anthology -- edited by acclaimed biographer Anne Zimmerman -- span Fisher's notable writing career, from her indulgent, wine-drinking days in 1930s France to her years as a gastronomic grande dame living in California in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
'M.F.K. Fisher is the best kind of wine writer. Not only does she make you more knowledgeable about and interested in wine, she makes you want to drink it.'"
Now enough of that fancy book-jacket copy!
Here's the real scoop: You can win a copy of M.F.K. Fisher: Musings on Wine and Other Libations by leaving a comment below telling me about your favorite wine.

It doesn't have to be a glass from an expensive or important bottle. Sometimes the best glasses are drunk on in the park, at the beach, or with someone special.
So -- Tell me about your favorite wine and enter to wine a copy of M.F.K. Fisher: Musings on Wine and Other Libations, out May 1st from Sterling Epicure.

Cheers!

* The details: I'll pick a winner Wednesday, May 9th. One book will be mailed to a winner in the United States.
** If you don't win, buy An Extravagant Hunger, Love in a Dish, or Musings on Wine from your favorite book seller. Pretty please?

  1. My favorite wine for now is Hey Mambo Sultry Red. At about $12, it's reasonable and probably even toward the splurge end of wines for us (me and bf). But it's so good! I love reds, and this one is easy to drink while having some character.

  2. Moscato di Terracina Oppidum. Sweeter than the whites I usually prefer, but this wine was a revelation. I was introduced to this wine by a former lover and for a time it became "our" wine. Complex, fruity without being cloying. Completely memorable. Like the affair, which is now ended. But my sweet memory of the wine lives on...

  4. Mas De Guiot, 2007 cab-syrah. I love it because it tastes complex. I mean, the kind of thing that you can tell was made by someone (or a group of people) who want the grapes to be themselves. If that makes sense. Also, it's one of the only wines that doesn't give me a splitting 5-day migraine :).

  6. Gorgeous!

I've been exploring German Rieslings. I prefer drier varieties, and don't have a particular favorite. Since reading "Reading Between The Wines", Terry has me hooked on the region.

  8. Oh, congratulations! I love MFK Fisher ever since reading her Alphabet for Gourmets in Gourmet Magazine. Anyway, this sounds terrific. My favorite wine? A pinot noir from Lemon Creek Winery in Michigan--yum.

  9. My most recent favorite was a bottle of Amity Winemaker's Reserve Pinot Noir. It was a 1982 that my sister had bought for her late husband for a Valentine's gift. They moved to Bolivia and couldn't take their wine with them. He then died in Bolivia in a tragic accident. My sister has since remarried and is now living in Burma and I kept asking what she wanted done with the wine. She kept telling me "just drink it." so we had the '82 last Thanksgiving - the fruit was lovely, the tannins were mellow, not a bit of browning or raisin taste. Now my kids got me to buy anothern Amity and keep it for another 30 years. "hey, I won't be able to enjoy it then!" "oh, don't worry Dad!"

  10. I loved An Extravagant Hunger. Love almost any champagne - but was gifted a bottle of Williams Selyem Pinot Noir which has me hooked on Pinot Noir again.
